this morning because it could be slick out there. here's meteorologist lynette charles. >> good morning. yes, all is well right now. but we do see the storm system brewing back off towards the west guys. that's what we are talking about today. and as you go through the evening the afternoon we do have the potential for some black ice that's going to be a big story for today. but as we look at what's going on on maryland's most powerful radar we can see that the system looks like it's trying to die down a bit and that's because it's running into drier air. so that will be the scenario this morning until it moistens up. we can see snow being reported around roanoke and also as far to the south as raleigh and they have reports of light sleet being reported there. that's our main concern as we go through the afternoon. the onset of that is sleet which is basically ice so we need to take it easy. let's show you what's going on in terms of the temperatures. because we are going to be dealing with 25 in manchester. 26 in owings mills and arnold

5:39 am
really tricky. look at this. you can watch as the bus tries to go around the corner and ends up sliding knocking over a light pole. this is between 5 and 13 inches of snow reported to fall around the area because of the huge winter storm and as you can see travel is an issue. >> time for a check of what we can expect. what are you looking at? >> we can expect slick roads. let's breakdown black ice. i will put it in motion and you can see this scenario. we have the car rolling down the street and it slides out because it hits black ice. and it's a thin coating of ice and the same color as the wet road so you don't see it. it happens questioninger on bridges and overpasses -- quicker on bridges and overpasses. it gets cold underneath and those are the first things that freeze and you will want to be cautious when driving because of the scenario. so speaking of driving, as the kids head out to school the temperature at 27 degrees is going to be cold. and once again we will be dealing with ice at the onset with sleet and that will switch all over to rain.
